#2 We all do stupid shxt
Gorilla Glue lady's not that crazy, online meetings that aren't boring and Ana Kasparian spills my thoughts
I had a whole piece about tech giants that I wanted to share with you guys today, but during the week the Gorilla Glue story happened this week, and ya'll. I gotta talk about this.
So just in case you haven't seen it, lemme catch you up real quick. A lady posted a TIkTok saying that she ran out of the commonly used Got2B Glued Hairspray and so she grabbed for Gorilla Glue spray, thinking it was also for hair. Fast forward a month later, her hair is ***stuck***. Like, will not move, will not grow out, nothing. She tapped her head on the vid and it was like hitting a brick.
Needless to say, the internet has gone wild with every range of emotion from disbelief - ie. she did this for clout (really, she ruined her scalp for likes?) to most people hoping she'll pull through and keeping tabs on her story.
But the people that get me the most are the ones insisting that they would never do something this dumb, because they know how to read. And those people, I call bullsh*t.
Let us not pretend we've not all clicked "I've read the Terms & Conditions" without actually reading them, knowing damn well it might bite us in the ass some day. Or simply opened up some item and went straight into using it without reading the instructions because we assumed we already knew. Or even worse, deliberately used a product in a different way than intended because we thought it might work for our unique situation. I know I have. And even after this, I'll probably do it again.
None of this is dumb. It's called being human. The human brain is fallible, flawed and fragile. And none of us are exempt from doing stupid shxt. So the next time you're ready to judge someone on the Internet for being human, remember it could be you next.
Something for you to try…
Boring Zoom meetings are the bane of our existence, but lucky for us, a few innovative folks online are changing up the online meeting game and I'm loving what they're coming up with so far. Check these out:
Whereby - online meetings in your browser, no downloads, no login, no passwords.
Gather.town - think games night for a large group, translated into the online space
Icebreaker - get folks together in a group, but with a one-on-one component, just like with networking events
What I’m up to these days…
Meetings, but fun! Had my first meet-up with other Notion Ambassadors and our kickoff meeting for cohort 3 of Launch MBA recently. These are how I found out about the cool tools mentioned above - so you know our meetings were lit! 🔥
OMG, have you seen this?!
Couldn’t have said it better myself, Ana.
Thank you for being one of my first subscribers of #GrownUpCocktails. I can’t tell you how much it means to me. Your feedback is also very critical in making sure that I make this the best part of your Sunday, so please, hit reply and let me know what you think!
